This is despite the fact that Bloemfontein Celtic recently announced the 24-year-old Togolese as their player, with Siwelele owner Max Tshabalala even releasing a statement rubbishing the Chiefs link.
“We are completely baffled by the alleged interest in Abraw by Chiefs. After being identified by our technical team as one of the players to be signed for this season, he was approached and subsequent to that we made an offer that he accepted and signed at our offices,” Tshabalala told the official Celtic website.
However, a source close to Stars has confirmed that Abraw had an option on his contract, which the club exercised.
“I don’t think Celtic were aware of this when they signed him. Celtic needed a clearance from Stars to sign Abraw, unfortunately that clearance has now been given to Chiefs. Abraw is a Chiefs player and he’ll be revealed as one of their players on Tuesday,” said the source.
Abraw becomes the second Stars player to join Amakhosi after defender Daniel Cardoso also signed with the Absa Premiership champions.
