This was a confession made by Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane following a 1-0 defeat by newly crowned Absa Premiership champions last night at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Bernard Parker scored a solitary in the dying minutes of the game to relegate Sundowns to a third position on the log while Pirates leapfrogged to second although Downs still have a game in hand.
Chiefs currently hold the record for the most number of points as they sit pretty at the summit of the Premiership, with 66 points after 28 games.
Downs held the record of 65 points after league winning season last term.
“It is unbelievable how football works sometimes,” said Mosimane. “What can I say? This is football, it’s the nature of football and it’s one of those games. If it has to happen, it will happen. But congratulations must go to Kaizer Chiefs … sometimes champions win like this, it’s very cruel, but again it’s ok.”
A second place finish for the Brazillians will secure a spot in the Caf Champions League.
Downs will also compete in the final of the Nedbank Cup final against Ajax Cape Town on May 16 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
