Senong’s Amajita head to the Africa Youth Championships next month in Senegal with some of their regular players already ruled out. Midfield dynamo Nhlakanipho Ntuli’s Dutch club, FC Twente, declined to release the player, with the duo of Tshepo Liphoko and Fagrie Lakay injured.
The tournament in West Africa is a stepping stone to the Fifa Under-20 World Cup to be hosted by New Zealand. Amajita are in Group B with Mali, Ghana and Zambia. Senong has a team which is high in confidence as they recently returned from a Commonwealth Cup victory in Russia. This team should be able to finish in the top four of the continental competition. What is also good about this team is that Senong has been with it for the past two years.
He inherited it from Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba, whom he also works with in the senior national side. The friendly against Chippa should give Senong a clearer idea on who is ready for the tournament in his team.
