Anele Ngcongca has been ruled out of Bafana Bafana’s upcoming 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo-Brazzaville through injury.

Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba confirmed yesterday that Ngcongca was unavailable for the game against the Red Devils in Pointe Noire on Saturday, and the return match in Polokwane on October 15.

“We got an email from his team (KRC Genk) saying that he is injured,” said Mashaba.

“They are taking him for a scan and will be sending the report. He is not going to be with us.”

The Bafana coach added that he was thinking about calling up a replacement for the defender.

“We are considering doing that and we will let you know, we can’t give names until we have notified the club,” said Mashaba.

Ngcongca joins another defender, Ayabulela Magqwaka, on the Bafana injury list, but his absence is definitely the bigger blow. The 26 year old is comfortably Bafana’s most experienced defender at international level, and was used in central defence by Mashaba for the qualifiers against Sudan and Nigeria last month.

“It is not a setback,” said Mashaba, however.

“We called up 26 players in the team in each and every position … to make sure we don’t run short. We have a tram to represent our country very well. It is not a train smash.”
