Samir Nurkovic has been in the country for just over two months but he is already one of the most-talked-about players after his impressive showings for Kaizer Chiefs in the four games they have played so far.
The Serbian-born striker has also broken his duck and he did it in style as his goal in the 1-1 draw against SuperSport United has been nominated for Goal of the Month in the Absa Premiership for the month of August.
“To be honest it’s a whole new environment to me,” the 27-year-old said at Naturena on Wednesday morning. “It’s a complete change for me. I came here from another continent and I am enjoying myself here at Chiefs.
“They have accepted me and I feel like I have been here for two years and not just two months,” explained Nurkovic. His agility looks to be his strongest feature and it has helped him win the hard-to-please Amakhosi fans over earlier than anyone may have anticipated.
“I am trying my best in every game to help the team get three points. And yes I can score… but this is football, sometimes it doesn’t happen. I am just trying to do what the coach asks of me. I give my best in every game and try to score as many goals as I can to help the team to reclaim the glory days.
“As a striker I would like to score many goals but as long as I am playing well and creating the chances, it doesn’t matter who scores just so long as we get three points,” he said earnestly.
Nurkovic said he had heard about Chiefs before joining them, and went on to say the club’s rich history makes them the best in Africa.
“Everybody has heard of Kaizer Chiefs one way or another. They are the biggest club in Africa because of the supporters and the rich history. I am happy to be part of this team,” he said. Nurkovic will most likely lead the Amakhosi attack again on Saturday evening when they host Polokwane City at FNB Stadium and he knows what it will take to keep their unbeaten run going.
“We respect every opponent. And if we play like we did in the first four games than there shouldn’t be a problem for us.”
Saturday’s game is set for a 6pm kick-off.
