Kaizer Chiefs’ 100% record in the Absa Premiership doesn’t mean the team have been doing everything right and midfielder Leboganga Manyama believes the two week break the team had during the cup weekend was good for them to rectify mistakes they made in the first two games.
Manyama – who scored in both wins against Highlands Park and Black Leopards – said the games were tough but they were exactly what they needed to get into the right momentum early on.|
“There are a lot of positives we took to the break but we also got a chance to rectify the mistakes. We opened with two tough games and there are always negatives even if you win. We had to rectify those and hopefully we will be better than we have been in the next games,” said Manyama this week.
The two results have done a lot of difference in the Amakhosi camp with players looking more relaxed yet determined at their training on Thursday morning as they prepared for another tough fixture against SuperSport United at FNB Stadium tomorrow afternoon. The match is set for a 6pm kick-off.
“It is a big game against a very good team,” Manyama admitted. “This is one of the games where form doesn’t really matter because SuperSport are always difficult to beat. They are a fighting team and we know what to expect from them,” added the 28-year-old Tembisa-born attacker.
Matsatsantsa a Pitori have been in good from as well, scoring six without a reply in their last two games, beating credible opponents in the form of Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits 3-0 each in a league and cup game. But while Manyama concedes that this shows Matsatsantsa’s potency, he said Amakhosi will be better served if they focus on their own game.
“Their results don’t mean anything to us. But obviously to them it is a huge confidence booster that they played against two big teams and won convincingly. I think they will come in a similar manner they did against Pirates so we have to be careful.
“But also what’s important is that we don’t worry too much about them as it is how we are going to show up on the day that matters.”
