Bloemfontein Celtic striker Tshegofatso Mabasa says he had expected his name to be on the list of Under-23 squad named by David Notoane.

Mabasa felt scoring eight goals in the league was enough for him to get a place in Notoane’s U23 squad for the two-legged Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualifier against Angola.

“I still qualify to play for the Under-23 national team and it came as a huge surprise to me that I was snubbed. Yes, it’s disappointing,” Mabasa was quoted as saying by Sunday World. “But these things happen, you must just learn to stay strong and keep on working hard.”

Mabasa added that he will focus on scoring more goals for Celtic as they push to stay in the top eight.
