Stuttering Wits set to stick to game plan

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt doesn’t plan on changing his tactics in the Clever Boys’ Absa Premiership clash with Golden Arrows tonight.

Wits have had a poor start to the new campaign, their only success in five matches coming against Arrows in the quarterfinals of the MTN8 – even then the Clever Boys only won on spot- kicks after a 2-2 draw.

Since then, Wits have lost three times to Cape Town City – in the league and both legs of the MTN8 semifinals, and drawn away to Free State Stars. But Hunt is not planning radical changes.

“We can’t do anything different, you can always expect a difficult match against Arrows. We will prepare as normal, we just need to be our best – they are a good side, we have a couple of injuries and we have a problem, so we will see who is fit to play and have a go,” said Hunt.

The MTN8 between Hunt and Arrows coach Clinton Larsen ended with both coaches getting sent off by the referee for a quarrel on the touchline.

“We don’t have any problems and I am sure will have a chat before the game, but we haven’t seen talked to each other since (we were sent off),” the Wits coach chuckled.

Having lost out on the opportunity to play in the final of the MTN8, Hunt says his side’s focus needs to shift to defending their league title.

“We need to shift our focus to the league title now, we need to get our league campaign up and running. We were knocked out of the MTN8, we have Arrows in front of us now and we need to focus on tomorrow’s game,” said Hunt.

Arrows have also had a slow start to the season, having being held to two draws in their opening league matches – against Ajax Cape Town and Bloemfontein Celtic.
