SuperSport United coach Cavin Johnson believes they have a huge fight on their hands against Orlando Pirates in their MTN8 quarterfinal on Sunday at the Mbombela Stadium.

With both teams coming off big victories this past weekend with Johnson’s side hammering Free State Stars 4-1 in the league, while Pirates defeated Caf Champions League champions Al-Ahly 3-0 away.

With this in mind, Johnson feels both teams will be highly motivated for this fixture, although the Sea Robbers still have to play their league match against AmaZulu tomorrow night at the FNB Stadium.

“Coming up against Pirates, we have to give them credit for beating Al-Ahly. I think they are the second team in South Africa to beat them after Platinum Stars,” Johnson said yesterday.

“They are always a very good team to play against, and if they can play like they did against Al-Ahly, then we have a big fight on our hands. And we hope to be able take the fight to Pirates and hopefully we’ll go through.”

Although Bucs only returned yesterday after their assignment in Egypt, they play AmaZulu tomorrow in a league match and Johnson admitted that his side will have slight advantage when it comes to fatigue.

“In one moment, yes, but in another moment when you play against Pirates is like playing against Barcelona. I do think that their medical and conditioning team will make sure that whoever is available to play the game will be ready to play against us.

“But if it’s an advantage that I could use on the day, then hopefully I will use it to the fullest.

“We are going to try and beat Pirates. This is our second game of the season and they are playing their fourth game.

“So they should be a little bit ahead of us, but is not an excuse to not play a good game and a brand of football we like to produce at SuperSport,” Johnson added.
