Mashego and Gould linked with PSL new boys

Absa Premiership new boys Highlands Park are wasting no time in making their intentions known as they chase the signature of veteran players in Morgan Gould and Katlego Mashego.

The Tembisa based side took the last spot in the Absa Premiership, joining National First Division winner Baroka FC in the top flight, following an impressive run in the promotions play-offs.

Gould was named on the list of 20 players that was released by Kaizer Chiefs last month. The 33-year-old has won five PSL titles among a host of domestic trophies during his prime. His experience would be key to aid Highlands’ course in their first season in the PSL as they will be accepted to fight to protect their status.

Mashego is also out of contract at the end of the season at Mamelodi Sundowns and he has made it clear that he has no intentions of hanging up his boots.

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic is 34 and Manchester United want to sign him. That thing [football talent] can’t leave you; it is there for you. Obviously, you can’t be the same person you were when you were 20,” Mashego told Sowetan.

The 34-year-old striker won the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot in the 2012/13 PSL campaign with 13 goals. His experience in front of goal would be key in leading the attack and mentoring the young stars at Highlands.
