Medeama started the game the better of the two teams and they had the ball in the back of the net in as early as the third minute, but the goal was disallowed.
Akowah then came close to putting his team in the lead from a free kick, but the ball went narrowly wide of goals.
Medeama were awarded a penalty in the 34th minute after Thabo Nthethe was adjudged to have fouled an opponent inside the box.
Akowah made no mistake from the penalty spot, sending Dennis Onyango the wrong way.
