Middendrop – I’ve done it before

German-born Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp has been embroiled in relegation battles in his previous clubs, and he somehow always managed to avoid the drop.

As it stands, Maritzburg are hanging on a thread, and with a showdown of a winner takes all against fellow strugglers Jomo Cosmos scheduled for Saturday – Middendrop is confident that he can pull a ribbit out of the hat once again.

“I have done it several times, not only here in South Africa.

“I went to China in Changchun Yatai… they really suffered as they suffer at the moment. From position 16, rock bottom, we ended in position nine.

“We have seen and done it in Bloemfontein, In October 2013 I took them over from position 13, and we ended the same season in position five.

“I went to Golden Arrows in 2011 with five games to go, we had to win three games otherwise Golden Arrows would’ve been relegated. We won those three games and we stayed in,” said the former Kaizer Chiefs mentor.

Middendrop says there is nothing about his team’s situation that frustrates him.

“I’m not really working with this phenomenon of being frustrated. I think if you are in this job it doesn’t matter. I like this position, I actually like this job.”
