Confederation of African Football (Caf) has fined Nigeria $5,000 for overcrowding the stadium during an Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Egypt in March.

It is reported that more than 40 000 spectators crammed into the Bello Stadium in Kaduna, which is said to be a 15 000-capacity stadium.

The Kaduna State government had allowed the fans to watch the crucial qualifier for free.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles lost the return fixture in Alexandria 1-0, ending their hopes of qualifying for the finals in Gabon next year.
