Former Orlando Pirates captain Mbulelo Mabizela has had his contract at National First Division team Royal Eagles terminated.

Eagles manager Richard Makhoba said they were not at liberty to reveal what the charges against Mabizela were at this stage, but confirmed that after an internal disciplinary hearing the former Bafana Bafana captain was found guilty of misconduct and his contract was terminated.

“At this stage we are not at liberty to say anything as the player concerned has other avenues to explore regarding the guilty verdict the club reached. We agreed that both parties would not speak to the media about the contents of the charges that were brought against him,” said Makhoba.

However The Citizen has it on good authority that the 35-year-old Mabizela was hauled to a DC hearing after he was allegedly found smoking dagga while in camp with the team.
