Welcome to a new soccer world

What better way to launch the new soccer season than with a new action-packed soccer supplement? Phakaaathi makes its debut in The Citizen on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 just days before the start of the local soccer season.

The Citizen’s new soccer pull-out, which appears every Tuesday, is packed with the latest news, in-depth profiles, expert analysis, previews, reviews and gossip.

Saturday sees the unofficial start of the local soccer season when Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs take each other on in the fourth edition of the Carling Black Label Cup at FNB Stadium. Fans get the chance to vote for the player they want to see in action, and even though some of the power is taken away from coaches Stuart Baxter and Vladimir Vermezovic, Saturday will still give them the chance to gauge how good their preparation has been ahead of the season.

Phakaaathi, Zulu for “inside” will be more than just another supplement. It offers our readers the opportunity to interact with us across all platforms, including our website – phakaaathi.co.za – and on Twitter – @Phakaaathi and Facebook.

Owen Da Gama writes a weekly column for us. Da Gama has coached Orlando Pirates, Platinum Stars, Free State Stars, Bloemfontein Celtic and Dynamos, while he was a prolific striker for Beerschot, Derry City, Moroka Swallows and Dynamos in the Eighties and Nineties.

We also want to interact with our readers through the Have your say letters page and XtraStrong, a social page where readers can send in their photographs taken with their favourite players or on match-days.

Soccer coverage will never be the same.

More soccer. Your way.
