Bloemfontein Celtic booked their place in the final of the eTV Charity Showdown after their 1-0 win over Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium.

Mogogi Gabonamong scored the games’ only goal.

Both teams used this pre-season tournament to experiment with their line-ups and gel new faces with the old one. Wits started with seven debutants while Celtic’s new brigade included Keegan Ritchie who is on trial.

Botswana international Gabonamong scored Phunya Sele Sele’s winner a minute before the half-hour mark. Gabonamong rose high to head, past goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs, from a corner by Heinrich Isaacs. The goal would have been to level matters had Wits’ captain Sibusiso Vilakazi scored from the penalty 15 minutes into the match.

Patrick Tignyemb denied him from the spot with Vilakazi’s effort from the rebound hitting the upright. Both teams put on a pre-season performance with players still gelling.
