Phakaaathi has learnt that influential Free State Stars defender Katlego Mashego has extended his stay at the club by a further two years, thereby ending speculation about his future.

Mashego, who was named Stars’ Player of the Season last season, was linked with moves to Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, but those moves failed to materialise. But now a source close to the player has confirmed to Phakaaathi that defender-cum-midfielder is staying put at Ea Lla Koto.

“KG has signed a two-year deal with Stars. This deal makes him one of the highest paid players at the club and he is happy about it,” said the source.

Mashego has been one of the outstanding players for Stars and his stay will come as a relief for coach Giovanni Solinas.
