Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite reportedly crashed his luxury car into the fence of a library in Ivory Park, near Tembisa.
According to the Sunday World, Mashamaite lost control of his sleek sedan while driving a long Freedom Drive in Ivory Park in the early hours of December 5.
The newspaper quoted a library employee saying that the BK Häcken defender was lucky to make it out of the incident alive.
“We had just had our Christmas party on the day when I got a call about the incident. He must have been driving at a high speed because the library’s fence is far away from the street. He was lucky to make it out alive. None of the occupants in the car was injured either. God was by their side,” said the library employee.
Mashamaite, who won the PSL Footballer of the Season, Player’s Player of the Season and Defender of the Season awards, left Chiefs at the end of last season to join Swedish club BK Häcken.
He was back in South Africa on holiday during December.
