Komphela lauds “world class” Lebese

Steve Komphela has raved about the form of George Lebese, but would not be drawn on whether he felt the Amakhosi left wing should have featured for Bafana Bafana against Mauritania earlier this month.

Lebese was a surprise omission by Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba and has continued his good form since, his double against SuperSport making it six goals in seven games for the 26 year-old since the season began.

“It (Bafana) is an environment I have worked in before and I have never been one to recommend a player to any (Bafana) coach,” said the current Chiefs coach and former Bafana caretaker and assistant coach.

“Whether the national selectors select him (Lebese) or not there will be no pressure from us. We are all happy with George. He is performing very well, he is a classy player, it is rare to get any wide player scoring goals. He is leading the scoring charts from a wide position. With his intelligence, you can’t ask for more, his technical ability is world class. Whether he is selected (for Bafana) or not, that is a choice the ones responsible will take.”

Chiefs take on Ajax Cape Town in the MTN8 final at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday. Kick off is 3pm.
