Mbesuma wary of Bucs threat

Collins Mbesuma expects a tough encounter against Orlando Pirates on Sunday as MP Black Aces aim to keep their title challenge going at Mbombela Stadium.

Aces went into this weekend nine points adrift of Sundowns at the top of the table, with Mbesuma the league’s current top scorer with 11 goals.

Pirates were in 11th place, trailing Aces by 13 points as they battle to get their domestic season going. The Buccaneers have lost their last two league games, going down to an embarrassing 1-0 defeat to Free State Stars in midweek.

Aces have also slipped a little of late, Muhsin Ertugral’s side winning just one of their last five league games.

“For the game against Pirates, we know it will not be easy, they are coming from a defeat and they have to get into the top eight,” said Mbesuma.

“But for us, we have to prepare well and simply follow the instructions of the coach. We have been doing well like that … I think we are shaking a bit in the second half of the season but we can get back and  the coach knows what he is doing.

“He is top coach and we have some younger and some senior players, we are all helping each other and working hard for the next game.”

Mbesuma says Aces’ formation and increased fitness are behind his return to scoring form this season.

“The formation we play suits me easier and my fitness is more from working too much with Elsa (Storm). She has helped bring up my fitness. But it is not about me, it is about the team, if I am scoring our combinations are working so I am happy with the team.

“For now I am not thinking about being top scorer, we will see, maybe in the last game I will look.”
