Memorial Service for Cele on Thursday

Maritzburg United FC have extended their gratitude for the messages of support and condolences they have received since the news of the passing of their midfielder, Mondli Cele broke out on Sunday morning.

The team said in a statement that they appreciate the support. The Pietermaritzburg based team also sent their condolences to the family of

SABC Sport journalist, Delisile Ngwenya who was in the car with Cele when it crashed into a bridge in the early hours of Sunday morning. Cele and Ngwenya were killed instantly while two other passengers survived.

“The club would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest condolences to the Ngwenya family and friends, for the loss of their daughter and friend who passed away in the same accident with Mondli.

“Ngwenya worked very closely with the club, as she was assigned to serve Maritzburg United for the SABC Sport’s Sekunjalo soccer programme. She worked very diligently in serving the club through the SABC,” said the club on Wednesday.

The club also revealed the official memorial and funeral services arrangements, and they are as follows:

Venue: Life Bible Church International, No 1 Archie Gumede Drive, Pietermaritzburg (opposite Old Simba Chips)

Time: 5pm

Funeral Arrangements

Date: Saturday, 23 January 2016

Venue: Folweni Sports Grounds (near Isipingo)

Time:  9am
