Etoile du Sahel will host Orlando Pirates in second leg of the final of the Caf Confederation Cup at the Stade Olympique de Sousse on Sunday afternoon.
The teams drew 1-1 in the first leg at Orlando Stadium last weekend.
Here are some numerical highlights of the competition (stats provided by Cafonline).
1 – Orlando Pirates are the first South African club to reach the final of the Caf Confederation Cup since its creation in 2004. The Buccaneers are also the only South African side to win the prestigious Caf Champions League, in 1995.
2 – Etoile du Sahel have two previous appearances in the final of the second-tier continental club championship. ‘Les Diables Rouges’ became the first Tunisian club to lift the title in 2006, beating FAR Rabat of Morocco in the final via the away goal after a 1-1 tie. Two years later, there were denied their second title by fellow Tunisian side, CS Sfaxien via away goals after a 2-2 tie in an all-Tunisian final.
3 – CS Sfaxien of Tunisia have won the annual competition the most times, on three occasions, 2007, 2008 and 2013. Besides reaching the final in 2010, they Sfax-based club remains the only side to have won back-to-back titles, 2007 and 2008.
6 – The number of goals scored by the top marksmen of the two finalists, Etoile du Sahel and Orlando Pirates. Etoile forward Baghdad Boundjah has scored six goals just as Thamsanqa Gabuza of Orlando Pirates.
7 – Tunisian clubs have reached the final seven times, emerging victors four times, making the North African country, the dominant force in the history of the competition.
31 – Goalkeeper Ayman Mathlouti is the oldest player in the Etoile du Sahel squad. The 31-year old is in his 12th season with the Sousse-based club, having joined in 2003.
39 – Veteran defender Lucky Legwathi is the oldest player in the final at 39-years. An iconic figure in South African club football, he has been with Pirates since 2002.
48 – The finalists have scored a total of 48 goals in 15 matches this term. Pirates have 29 goals to their credit and 19 for Etoile du Sahel.
80 – Etoile du Sahel was formed 80 years ago. The Sousse-based club was founded on 18 May 1925. On the otherhand, Pirates has 1 January 1937 as their date of creation.
342 – The 139 matches so far have produced 342 goals, with an average of 2.5 goals per match.
