Chiefs and Sundowns in rampant mood

Both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns found their goal-scoring boots over the weekend to notch up their first victories of the Premiership season.

Chiefs dispatched Free State Stars 4-0 at FNB Stadium, while Sundowns beat a much-fancied Wits side 4-2 at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

The much-hyped signing of Dean Furman by SuperSport United did not have immediate effect as they drew 1-1 with Mpumalanga Black Aces.

University of Pretoria romped to a 3-0 win over Polokwane City, and Ajax Cape Town outclassed Maritzburg United 3-1.

In an unusual turn of fate, Chiefs were helped by two own-goal from Stars as the hosts eased to the half-time break three goals up with George Lebese adding the first goal from a player in a yellow jersey. Captain Siphiwe Tshabalala capped the rousing display with a stunning volley from way out with just under 25 minutes remaining to complete the 4-0 scoreline.

For Sundowns, Cuthbert Malajila banged in a brace though Daine Klate pulled a goal back for the Clever Boys. But two late strikes from Khama Billiat and Teko Modise allowed the hosts to rise to a 4-2 scoreline.

At Cape Town stadium, Prince Nxumalo reeled off a brace for the hosts as his side came from behind to beat Maritzburg 3-1.

Yet another brace was notched-up in Pretoria by Khethukuthula Zwane to help Tuks to a comprehensive win over their Polokwane opponents.

Sunday was a more subdued affair with the two fixtures both ending in draws. Jomo Cosmos and Golden Arrows ended goalless, while Bloem Celtic and Platinum Stars shared the spoils in a 1-1 result.
