Tefu Mashamaite’s agent says the central defender is still looking for an overseas move, after his prospective transfer to New York City FC broke down at the last minute.

“Of course that is his (Mashamaite’s) ambition,” said Jazzman Mahlakgane.

“And I will try to do as much as I can.”

The 30 year-old Mashamaite is back in the country after a trial in the Big Apple, and Mahlakgane insisted that City wanted to sign him, but that their attempts were blocked by the Major Soccer League.

“The MLS rejected the offer, because they (New Yok City) didn’t have the budget. These guys (City) gave us an offer on Monday, but said it was unofficial until the MLS approved it. We were in contact with them until yesterday, and yesterday the MLS told them that they don’t have the budget to bring three new players in. They wanted to sign him now.”

“It is a bit devastating, but life goes on.”
