Khumalo’s contract at Tottenham Hotspur recently expired and he had been training with Matsatsantsa a Pitori only to keep himself fit.
The hard-tackling defender has expressed his desire to continue playing in Europe, according to Matthews.
“Bongani wants to go to Europe,” said Matthews, “he has a couple of work permit issues at the moment.
“Initially we brought him at the club just to keep fit our favour and respect of our former captain, he lifted the championship three times for me.
“If he does not have anywhere to go at the end of the transfer window, we wont hesitate to sign him back.”
Matthews further revealed that the Swaziland-born player has rejected an offer from America’s Major League Soccer (MLS) which host among others Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.
“He rejected a offer from the MLS, a very nice offer because he wants to play in Europe. I would battle to match that contract financially. Even if he stayed with us it will be with the understanding that it will be a very short contract.
“I am sniffing everyday, but we will not be signing Bongani.”
