Alje Schut scored his third goal of the season while Teko Modise scored a penalty as Mamelodi Sundowns booked their spot in the next round of the Nedbank Cup, courtesy of a 2-0 win over Thanda Royal Zulu in Pretoria on Saturday evening.

Schut headed home Teko Modise’s 52nd minute free-kick in a scrappy affair at Loftus Versfeld, before Modise turned scorer from the spot on 75 minutes as the Brazilians stretched their unbeaten run to 10 goals in all competitions, dating back to mid-November.

Sundowns become the fourth Premiership team safely into the next round, after Orlando Pirates and Mpumalanga Black Aces became the first pair through, while Kaizer Chiefs eased into the last 16 thanks to a courtesy 4-0 win earlier on Saturday.
