Khenyeza was suspended by the PSL’s disciplinary committee for allegedly swearing and spitting at an assistant referee in April, while playing for Ajax Cape Town.
Khenyeza joined PSL comeback kids Aces during the transfer window after failing to secure a new contract at Ajax. Despite the ban, Khenyeza was featured in Amazayoni’s season opener against PSL champions Kaizer Chiefs.
Chiefs lodged a complaint about Khenyeza’s inclusion before the match, but later dropped their case.
The PSL had misinterpreted their own rules when they threatened legal action against Aces for fielding the player. But after a few days of consideration, PSL CEO Brand de Villiers issued an apology to Aces, claiming responsibility over the issue.
“The league did not consider all the rules as detailed in your letter,” said De Villiers through a statement.
“The wrong opinion was formed with regards to whether Mr Khenyeza could play or not.”
The matter will be heard by the South African Football Association appeals board.
