Speaking after his team’s disappointing 2-0 defeat by Chippa United in their last game of the season on Saturday afternoon, Komphela said he wants Chiefs to be back with a bang next season.
“We look to the 2016/17 season and we need to come back better, with more energy and better attitudes,” said Komphela who has been nicknamed “Drawmphela” after the team’s recorded 13 draws under his guidance.
“There has been work that’s done already, but proper announcements will be made in due course. But we need to bring in players that have energy,” said Komphela.
Major squad changes are expected, and rumours have already started that Amakhosi have acquired Chippa’s Joseph Molangoane as they prepare for next season. Molangoane was allegedly chased out of Chippa’s camp just before Saturday’s game as Chilli Boys management became aware of his pre-contract with the Glamour Boys.
Chiefs are also said to be close to sealing the deal with Bloemfontein Celtic to sign Thapelo Morena.
Amakhosi will be under pressure to do better in the new season, having finished the last without picking up any silverware. The season started with so much promise however when Chiefs reached the MTN8 final, only to lose to Ajax Cape Town. Komphela’s team also did well in the Telkom Knockout, reaching the final, but went down to Mamelodi Sundowns.
