Thulani Hlatshwayo believes Bidvest Wits must defend better against Bloemfontein Celtic on Friday if they are to reach the next round of the Nedbank Cup.

Celtic have won just once in their last 15 matches, but that was 2-1 victory over the Clever Boys in a league match on January 31.

Wits were actually leading in that game, but were affected by an injury to Buhle Mkhwanazi and lost to a stoppage time penalty from Musa Nyatama.

“Obviously we conceded towards the end of the game and lost a bit of concentration, because we controlled the game in the first half,” said Hlatshwayo.

“(Elias) Pelembe scored and then Buhle went out. Sometimes it is difficult to adapt it was also Bongani’s (Khumalo) first game. We have learned from our mistakes, we controlled the game … on Friday if we keep it solid at the back we have an opportunity to win.”

The games are coming thick and fast for Wits, with Friday’s game followed by an Absa Premiership clash with Polokwane City on Wednesday and a Caf Confederation Cup match against Azam FC the following Saturday.
