Phakaaathi sources have revealed that Steve Komphela’s days as Kaizer Chiefs coach are numbered and he could be axed during the January Africa Cup of Nations break.

One source said Amakhosi boss Kaizer Motaung is already looking at various CVs for a possible replacement, while another said he already has a coach in mind.

“He invited agents to bring CVs and he looked through. He was impressed by former Pirates coach coach Ruud Krol’s illustrious CV and he is the front runner for the job. The only worry is that the fans may not accept him because of him having coached at Bucs previously,” said the source.

Another source said Motaung wanted to bring in a new face, and not pick from the pool of coaches who have already coached elsewhere in South Africa. Amakhosi have not made much progress since Komphela took over the team last season and calls for his head have been consistent.
