The South African Under-20 men’s national team look set to make the Caf 2017 Africa Youth Champions (AYC) after securing a 2-0 win over Lesotho in the third and final round of the first leg of qualifiers at Setsoto Stadium in Maseru, Lesotho on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Bidvest Wits forward Liam Jordan in the sixth minute and a late strike by Orlando Pirates midfielder Kamohelo Sithole in the second half were more than enough to give Thabo Senong’s charges a much needed advantage going into the second leg which will be played in South Africa in two weeks.
It was a much better performance from Amajita, who have been
wasteful in front of goal in their previous games.
Misfiring in front of goals was a major concern for coach Senong, who
stressed about making things right going into the clash with the neighbouring country.
The AYC will be played in Zambia and, should Amajita qualify, it will be
their fifth appearance at the continental youth championships
