Co-parents can now move with their kids across provinces

The minister of social development Lindiwe Zulu has released a statement regarding the movement of children whose custody is shared amongst parents.

Co-parents who reside in different metropolitan areas, district municipalities or provinces are allowed to move their children around. This mostly allows the movement of children who are not with their primary caretaker to do so. This is according to the statement which under the new regulations allow the movement of children between co-holders of parental responsibilities who reside in different metropolitan areas, district municipalities or provinces.

They can move around on the condition that they have the below:

• a court order or,
• parental responsibilities and rights agreement from a Family Advocate or
• a permit issued by a magistrate

For the permit to be issued by the magistrate, the parents need to have:

1. the child’s original or certified birth certificate, and
2. a letter detailing reasons why the child has to be moved
