Think before you judge Trump

A number of key economic indicators in the US have improved significantly since Trump took over.

It’s so easy to have a go at Donald Trump, isn’t it? He has a bit of the look of a buffoon about him, with his wild hair, animated small hands and incessant tweeting.

So there will be many who believe every word in the new, hot-selling book, Fire and Fury. Inside the Trump White House by Michael Wolff.

According to the author, people around Trump regard him as something between an idiot and a moron and that other people pull his strings in what is, in effect, a silent palace coup.

While we have no basis to comment on the substance of the book, we would urge caution in a number of respects.

Firstly, Wolff is a columnist for the Hollywood Reporter, a gossip publication not known for skill in politics or hard news.

Next, the American news media is hardly nonpartisan and many organisations, like CNN, have been trying to rip Trump apart ever since he defeated the liberal darling, Hillary Clinton.

Finally, a number of key economic indicators in the US have improved significantly since Trump took over – something which a great many Americans recognise and are grateful for.

So, think before you make easy judgments on Donald Trump.
