Pupils learn the language of computer science

The programme aims to introduce students to computer science concepts and languages in accessible and innovative ways.

Change the World Trust, with a kick-start from Dell Development Fund and a newly formed partnership with KwaDukuza Resource Centre have brought the Hour of Code to KwaDukuza.

The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180-plus countries and on April 9, an introductory presentation was launched at the KwaDukuza Resource Centre to about 30 teachers, the Department of Basic Education and 120 pupils.

The programme aims to introduce students to computer science concepts and languages in accessible and innovative ways. It is user friendly and can be adopted by pupils from as young as eleven.

The teachers were grateful and supportive of a programme that will up-skill their pupils, while requiring the least amount of undertaking from their already busy curriculum.

KwaDukuza Resource Centre fully endorsed the Hour of Code and understands the value of computer science education.

The centre calls on teachers and schools to collaborate with and coordinate efforts to introduce youth to computer science by making available their facilities and facilitators to accommodate training.

Change the World Trust has an ambitious vision to reach 10 000 youths in SA before year end, with a skill that is unquestionably one of the most sought after in today’s technologically driven world.

Anyone, anywhere can benefit from the programme.
