Tembisa South SAPS removing Sarah Mosese at Vusimuzi Informal Settlement after she was caught inside the locked shack room of an 11-year-old boy.
An elderly woman of Vusimuzi Informal Settlement was accused of being a witch after she was caught inside the locked shack room of an 11-year-old boy at about 6am on Wednesday in Johannesburg, Tembisan reports.
Residents believe the woman is a witch, judging from the things she said. They also do not know how she got into the room, as it was locked.
The elderly woman said her name was Sarah Mosese. The young boy said she told him to keep quiet when he woke up with her in the room.
“I woke up to prepare for schooling but I found an old woman moving around my room. She told me to keep quiet as she wanted to get inside my blankets. I moved to the door to unlock it so I could call my parents for help,” said the 11-year old.
The father of boy said he was woken by his frightened son, who told him to come and look in his shack room.
“I was stunned and puzzled when I found the barefoot woman standing inside my son’s room. My question was, how did she enter the room because it was locked. It is not easy to break into a room that is locked with a shutter-lock [self-made steel lock]. The gate was also locked,” he explained.

He then called some of the residents and DA councillor Phillip Thamahane to come and witness what was happening at his house.
“Residents and the councillor arrived without delay. The woman was asked what she was doing in my yard. She spoke random things which did not make sense. She said we should let her go as there were two other women waiting for her outside the yard. We let her go but she kept wondering around the yard until we had to call the police,” he added
“When asked what she was doing at the premises, she said she used to eat and sleep there every day. So last night she couldn’t eat or sleep as the owner of the yard hit her with a brick on the forehead,” one resident said.
Thamahane said he was happy at how the residents handled the matter, as no one laid a hand on the woman.
“No violence was used towards the woman until the police removed her to the station. I am extremely proud to have residents who handle matters as responsible adults and do not encourage crime,” he added
Tembisa South Police spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela said the woman was handed over to Tembisa social workers.
