Extremely high fire danger conditions expected in Northern Cape

Gauteng weather: Partly cloudy and warm.


The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an alert for extremely high fire danger conditions over the ZF Mgcawu Municipality of the Northern Cape on Wednesday.

“Conditions are such that the FDI index is above 75. Under these conditions, fires may develop and spread rapidly, resulting in damage to property and possible loss of human and/or animal life,” warned the weather service.

Gauteng: Partly cloudy and warm weather. The expected UVB sunburn index: very high.

Mpumalanga: Cloudy in the east with morning fog patches and a chance drizzle along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm.

Limpopo: Cloudy in the east with a chance of drizzle along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot.

North West: Fine and warm weather, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon.

Free State: Morning fog patches in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm.

Northern Cape: Fine and cool to warm weather. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-easterly.

Western Cape: Morning fog patches along the south-west coast, otherwise Partly cloudy and cool but warm over the interior.

The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly but light south-easterly along the south coast. The expected UVB sunburn index: high.

Western half of the Eastern Cape: Partly cloudy weather with morning fog patches over interior, otherwise fine and warm. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly.

Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Cloudy with a chance of light morning rain along the coast, otherwise fine and cool to warm. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly.

KwaZulu-Natal: Morning fog over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly. The expected UVB sunburn index: very high.
