“When you beat a dog, its owner comes out. The president did that, and that is why they are all coming out,” said Bathabile Dlamini in response to all those who marched against Zuma.
ANC Women’s League president and Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini was one of the many people who attended the president’s birthday celebration in Kliptown yesterday.
During her speech at the birthday bash, she expressed her uneroded support for President Jacob Zuma and said the only reason there were conflicts within the ANC were because he had tried to correct members who were out of line.
“As women‚ we said you will lead until the end of your term‚” said Dlamini.
“We’ll defend the president because when you defend the president you’re also defending the ANC. When you defend the ANC … you’re defending an organisation that was formed by all South Africans who were fighting against the apartheid government.
“Stealing and corruption is nothing new to them. They stole our land and now they’re the ones branding us thieves.”
Ppposition parties had gathered at the Union Building in Pretoria to protest against Zuma’s presidency, calling for him to step down. Zuma didn’t appear to be bothered by the opposition marches, calling them “Mickey Mouse parties”.
“Just ignore them, being hated is nothing new to me. They were never my pals and will never be‚” said Zuma.
