WATCH: Home affairs ‘reckless’ stamper in trouble
Gigaba tweeted that he has asked the department to investigate and 'take swift action'.
A viral video of what appears to be a department of home affairs customs officer discharging her duties recklessly has attracted the attention of the also under-fire Minister Malusi Gigaba.
In the video the employee, clad in the department’s casual T-shirt, appears to be stamping a visa on to an applicant’s passport while paying attention to her cellphone more than the matter at hand.
In parliament, EFF chief whip Floyd Shivambu asked Gigaba on Tuesday if he had ever visited Dubai and had arranged a R500 000 “gift” for his “girlfriend”, so Twitter users had other ideas about the incident.

The video has since stirred a debate on social media, with both Twitter and Facebook users remarking that this is perhaps the reason the country battles with illegal immigration issues, as the lady could have stamped a forged passport or granted a persona non-grata entry into the country.
Gigaba is not amused, and has assured the public his department will be investigating the matter.
