According to information released by official ANC twitter account and verified by department of information and publicity officials, voting for ANC national officials begun just after 00:30 on Monday morning.
This was after spokesperson Zizi Kodwa earlier informed journalists that voting has been postponed for logistical reasons, saying “if it resumes now it may be concluded at 6am.”
The decision taken earlier tonight to postpone voting was rescinded allegedly after several delegates from Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Cyril Ramaphosa camps opposed the postponement, fearing “horse-trading”.
The reversal of the decision is understood to have been taken a few minutes after outgoing Treasurer General Zweli Mkhize finished delivering his ‘financial report’ to the plenary during a closed session.
The outcome of the voting for the Top Six positions, in which Dlamini and Ramaphosa will go head to head for the party’s top position, are only expected around midday on Monday if they are not heavily contested, sources indicated.
