Students are currently busy with their final exams, and some missed out on writing a paper during the time of the taxi strike, and just when they thought that was the end of their problem, they realised that they still had to figure out how to  make it home without taxis.

Commuters all over Gauteng were left stranded because there were no taxis available due to the National Taxi Association (NTA) strike.

Why was the National Taxi Association on strike?

• For the trading and advertising rights at taxi ranks to be given to the taxi industry.
• They want dedicated lanes for taxis or to be allowed to use bus lanes.
• For all the taxi ranks through the municipalities and Salga must be modernised.
• The money they get for scrapping their old taxis under the taxi recapitalisation programme is not enough for them to purchase new ones.
• They worry that the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act (Aarto), which earns drivers demerits points for traffic violations, will affect owners instead of drivers.
