Traffic was heavily affected on the M1 – both north- and southbound – between Grayston Drive and Corlett Drive on Sunday after a vehicle transporting six cows crashed near the Corlett Drive bridge, reports the Sandton Chronicle.
ER24 paramedics tweeted that there were no human injuries, and the team assisted with ‘sedating and trying to save the cows from being euthanised’. At the time of the tweet at about 2.45pm, they said two had been saved so far.
According to the chief of the Metro police, David Tembe, four cows were found after the crash but, at around 1pm, two were missing. According to a report by Sowetan Live, Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said that the two had been found injured and had to be euthanised by the SPCA. Tembe also confirmed that freeway officers were attending the scene and advised that motorists were urged to approach with caution.
Many have taken to Twitter to share what they saw on the scene.
