Union is commanding in Breaking In

There’s nothing like a home invasion to bring a family together. When her father is killed suddenly in a car accident, Shaun Russell (Gabrielle Union) is forced to toughen up when she returns to her childhood home.

It turns out her father was rather well off; his house is something of a technical marvel, complete with bulletproof windows and motion sensors. In order to settle her dad’s affairs and sell the house, Shaun makes a trip with her smart and love-crazed daughter Jasmine (Ajiona Alexus) and her timid tech genius son, Glover.

What she hasn’t banked on was that a gang of criminals would be venturing to her father’s rather secluded countryside house, as they believe there’s a large sum of money hidden somewhere inside.

Shaun manages to escape, but finds herself outside the house with the four burglars holding her children hostage inside.

What follows is a test of commitment and strength as Shaun tries to resolve this life-threatening situation that facing both herself and her children.

Directed by Australian film director James McTeigue (V For Vendetta, The Raven) Breaking examines the lengths to which a mother will go to protect the lives of her children. It’s a tense thriller, fill with scenes that make Shaun’s plight both riveting and real.

As the lead (and producer) Union gives a commanding performance; playing Shaun as lioness who will stop at nothing to save her family.

As the film unfolds, the plot also reveals some rather ambiguous, sketchy details about the relationship between Shaun’s deceased father and his now tough-as-teak daughter. If you want your thrillers tight and bloody, you could do worse.
