Two security guards shot in botched hijacking

Two security guards were shot at during an attempted hijacking of a van carrying cigarettes this morning, March 8, the Bergville Road in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, Ladysmith Gazette reports.
The hijackers managed to force the escort vehicle off the road and a shootout ensued.
The van carrying cigarettes managed to elude the initial hijacking but was forced to come to a halt several kilometres from the road.

A security guard was shot and wounded, while the other security guard was shot in his bulletproof vest and was also wounded due to the impact of the high-calibre rounds.
The suspects fled the scene, and a massive manhunt for the armed robbers is under way.
The road is currently closed as investigations take place.
