Two people killed in Kelvin shootout

Police have launched a manhunt for a suspect after two people were killed in an early morning shootout in Kelvin, Sandton.

Police spokesperson Constable David Mothapo said at about 7am, two suspects jumped over a Kelvin resident’s wall, Sandton Chronicle reported.

“The two suspects saw that the resident was about to drive out in his car. A confrontation ensued between the suspects and the resident.”

Mothapo said the suspects fired shots at the resident who then retaliated and shot back.

“Both the 43-year-old victim and one of the suspects died at the scene.”

Mothapo said the other suspect fled on foot, and two firearms were recovered.

He added that a case of attempted murder, murder and an inquest docket have been opened.
