Two people were killed and three injured during a house robbery in Garsfontein, Pretoria, this morning, Pretoria East Rekord reports.
Police said a family of five were ambushed by attackers at their home on Mias Street.
A neighbour said two men forced open a wooden door that led to the house. The robbers pointed a gun at the man and forced the family upstairs, said the resident.
“They allegedly stole a TV and a VW Polo,” said the neighbour.
Garsfontein police spokesperson Captain Ilze Jones said police received a call at about 12.30am. She said a neighbour alerted police.
“We believe three suspects fled after 12am, which enabled the victims to call for help, and police found two women with fatal stab wounds.”
She confirmed electrical equipment and a car had been stolen from the property, though the vehicle was later recovered in Yeoville.

Jones said a docket for house robbery and murder had been opened.
The three people injured were taken to a nearby hospital, she said.
Jones said statements would be taken from the family members once they were in a stable state to communicate the details of the attack.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics arrived at the scene around 12.46am. He said when paramedics arrived, they found the family had been tied up, assaulted and stabbed.
“Two females died before our arrival,” said Botha.
He said of the three injured, one woman was in a critical condition, a man was seriously injured, while another woman escaped with moderate injuries.
According to the neighbour, the male family member is a senior official in government.
