Twitter account makes shocking claims about Senzo Meyiwa’s murder

As far-fetched as it seems that a Twitter parody account is a hardcore source of investigative journalism in South Africa, this seems to be the case in the form of @AdvBarryRoux. Unlike a professional investigative reporter, though, the account is anonymous and therefore does not need to answer questions regarding the authenticity of its claims.

The account has been called out for posting “fake news” before, including a recent tweet about a raid on a Boksburg hostel that the police pointed out had not taken place. The account has since deleted the tweet.

“Fake news” aside, though, the account is taken seriously by many South Africans, making his latest accusations regarding the murder of Senzo Meyiwa worth scrutinising.

Today, the account posted a series of tweets that implicated several prominent South Africans in the murder of the former Bafana Bafana captain.

According to the account, Chicco Twala and Kelly Khumalo are among those who should be arrested for their alleged roles in the Meyiwa murder.

The tweets also accuse former Hawks boss Shadrack Sibiya of overseeing the murder of suspects, including a primary school teacher.

Colonel Andre Neethling and Colonel Leslie ‘Cowboy’ Maluleke are also accused of several cover-ups, including that of Meyiwa’s murder in the tweets.

Whether there is any truth to the shocking allegations remains to be seen.

In the meanwhile, we continue to follow one of South Africa’s most interesting Twitter accounts.
