As tensions between the United States and South Africa continue to simmer, President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the appointment of Mcebisi Jonas as the Special Envoy to the United States (US).
Jonas’s appointment as special envoy follows the expulsion of the former South African ambassador to the US, Ebrahim Rasool.
Rasool returned to South Africa last month after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expelled him and stripped him of his diplomatic privileges.

A school is fighting to restore pride after a teacher was stabbed, while those on the inside feel their efforts are weighed down by government control.
Hoërskool Die Burger has been plagued by disciplinary issues, crumbling infrastructure and a community fighting its own socio-economic battles.
In the second violent incident in the space of a few weeks, a male teacher was stabbed by a grade 8 pupil who was angered by alleged comments about his posture in class.

After a two-month hiatus, the murder trial of former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa has been delayed again.
The trial was expected to resume in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Monday.
However, proceedings were once again delayed, prompting frustration from the presiding judge.

Donald Trump previously announced a 50% tariff hike on products exported from Lesotho to the US. While Trump has put a 90-day pause on imposing the hike, the Lesotho government says his reason for imposing the tariff is unfounded.
Lesotho is not the only African country the Trump administration has hit with tariff hikes. Other countries facing them include South Africa, Kenya and Madagascar.
The tariffs are part of Trump’s reciprocal tariff policy, aimed at countries with significant trade surpluses with the US.

The fatal shooting of a 50-year-old man inside the Wynberg Regional Court last week is believed to be a revenge murder, while a second suspect has been arrested.
The alleged mastermind, Shireen Matthews, made her first appearance at the court on Monday.
The 35-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday by members of the South African Police Service’s (Saps) Western Cape Serious Violent Crime Detectives.
