Tembo sees possibility of returning to Confed Cup after Pirates win

United had a fantastic run it the 2017 Confederation Cup, reaching the final only to succumb to Democratic Republic of Congo’s TP Mazembe in the final.


The possibility to finish within the top three of the Absa Premiership still exists for SuperSport United, and should they manage to achieve a third-place finish, they will represent South Africa in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Matsatsantsa A Pitori come at the back of hard fought 1-0 win against Orlando Pirates at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday night, moving up the log standings to fourth, just a single point behind the Buccaneers.

“SuperSport is a very ambitious team and I’ve always said that we always want to be there playing and competing I Africa because it builds the team in terms of our branding and the players’ mentality,” said Tembo.

“They come back after learning a lot because a lot of things happen in Africa in terms of travelling and the prioritization for us as coaches and how do we need to train the team because of the demands of playing in Africa.

“We would love to go back again because we lost in the final and we probably want to do better because that is key. We always want to be there and be visible in Africa week-in and week-out. When we reached the finale people started noticing that there is SuperSport from South Africa,” he added.
