A taxi driver is in hot water after he allegedly used his warning triangle to smash a motorist’s side mirror in a road rage incident in Durban.
According to the Durban North police spokesperson Captain Raymond Deokaran, the incident occurred on Monday at about 8.15am on the N2 near the Sibaya off-ramp, Northglen News reported.
“There was traffic congestion on the N2, and the taxi driver was attempting to drive along the yellow lane to get ahead. One of the motorists prevented him from going any further by partly blocking the lane. The taxi driver then allegedly took out his warning triangle, and as he drove past the man, damaged his side mirror using the triangle,” he said.
Deokaran said a case of malicious damage to property had been opened at the police station.
He urged motorists not to react to provocation and to stay away from erratic drivers.
“As motorists we all have a responsibility and numerous opportunities to cool the emotional temperature on the roads,” he said.
The incident comes two days after a motorist was shot at near the Sibaya traffic circle.
