Syndicate suspected after Porsche thefts in Montana

The syndicates are highly organised and dangerous.

Police suspected a syndicate at work after thieves made off with two Porches on Saturday when ransacking a house in Montana Park, Pretoria.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the residents were not home at the time.

“The owner was on vacation,” Van Dyk said.

Mike Bolhuis, a specialist violent and serious economic crimes investigator, said he suspected a syndicate was responsible, Rekord North reported.

“This is no mere coincidence. This was an organised, well-informed crime that took place,” said Bolhuis.

A Porsche Cayenne with the registration number: 193 Z GP and a Porsche Panamera with the registration: 500 WTM GP, were stolen in Blousysie Street.

Bolhuis said the thieves had also broken into the house to steal valuable items, which they apparently loaded into the Porsches and getaway vehicles.

“They deactivated the alarm systems, possibly with inside help, prior to the theft,” said Bolhuis.

He said the syndicate stole all types of expensive sports cars.

“High on its list are Porsches, Mercedes, BMWs and Land Cruisers. These vehicles are then taken across borders like Zambia and Mozambique. Here they get re-registered as quickly as possible and sold.”

Bolhuis said syndicates were highly organised and dangerous.

“People should be careful not to leave a paper trail. These thugs are alert and informed,” he advised.

“There are several factors that we look at when investigating organised crimes. Corruption, inside information as well as discarded information aid these syndicates.”

Police are investigating.
